February 2026 Tax Deadlines for Individuals

Stay informed with your February 2026 tax responsibilities. This article delves into estimated tax payments, tip reporting requirements, and W-4 exemption updates.

February 2 - Estimated Tax Filers

If you missed making your final estimated tax payment by January 15, you have the option to file your 2025 income tax return (Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR) by February 2. By filing and paying any owed taxes by January 31, you can avoid penalties for any delayed payment of your last installment. In case you're unable to file and pay by February 2, ensure to complete this by April 15.

February 10 - Tip Earning Employees

Employees who earned $20 or more in tips throughout January must report these to their employer. You may utilize IRS Form 4070 or a personal statement that includes your signature, name, address, Social Security number, employer’s name and address, the period covered, and the total tips earned. Your employer is obligated to withhold FICA and income taxes on these tips, and any uncollected amounts will be listed in box 8 of your W-2, which you will need to pay with your annual return.

February 17 - W-4 Withholding Exemption

If you claimed an exemption from tax withholding on the previous year's Form W-4, it’s crucial to submit a new one to your employer by this date to maintain the exemption for another year.
