April 2026 Business Tax Deadlines: What You Need to Know

April is a critical month for business compliance. Between juggling daily operations and managing cash flow, keeping track of federal tax obligations can feel overwhelming. To help you avoid costly late fees, we have compiled the essential April 2026 business tax deadlines you need to mark on your calendar.

Team planning business taxes

April 15 Deadlines

C-Corporations: Your 2025 calendar year income tax return (Form 1120) is due, along with any taxes owed. Need more time? Submit Form 7004 for an automatic six-month extension. Remember, an extension to file is not an extension to pay. You must estimate and deposit your tax liability to prevent late payment penalties. Additionally, your first installment for 2026 estimated taxes is due today.

Fiduciary Returns: This is the final day to file a 2025 calendar year fiduciary return (Form 1041) or request an extension for estates and trusts.

Payroll & Non-Payroll Withholding: For businesses under the monthly deposit rule, tax deposits for March payments (including Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income tax) are due.

April 30 Deadlines

Quarterly Payroll Taxes: File Form 941 for the first quarter of 2026. You must deposit any undeposited tax under the accuracy of deposit rules. If your liability is under $2,500, you may pay it with a timely filed return. Businesses that deposited their full quarter's taxes on time receive an extended deadline of May 11.

Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA): Deposit the tax owed through March if the total exceeds $500.

Holidays and Disaster Relief

Deadlines falling on a weekend or legal holiday automatically shift to the next business day. Furthermore, businesses in federally declared disaster areas often receive deadline relief. Check FEMA or the IRS disaster relief page to verify your specific region's status.
